Founded in 1993, aigo has always put innovation front and centre of its corporate agenda. It became acutely aware of the importance of intellectual property in the early 2000s, after several run-ins in the Chinese courts and at an exhibition in Germany. A concerted and sustained programme to expand its IP portfolio means that today it holds over 1,000 patents and trademarks in China. Unsurprisingly, aigo has become a more aggressive litigant as a result, and has established itself as a pioneer among Chinese companies in actively deploying and defending its IP rights. An infringement suit against Toshiba – which aigo ultimately won in 2011 – is widely regarded as one of the first victories for a Chinese company in an IP dispute against a foreign opponent.
